I hold the position of an Associate Professor at the Department of Public Health, Pharmacology and Toxicology (PHPT), University of Nairobi with fourteen (14) years’ experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision. I have research interests in ethics of One Health and Emergency research. I lead the UoN-OSU MSc in One Health and Emergency Research Ethics (MOHERE) program at the University of Nairobi. I hold postdoctoral qualifications from The Ohio State University (OSU) in ethics of One Health and Emergency Research. Postdoctoral studies at OSU focused on ethical challenges encountered by One Health researchers, Research Ethics Committee (REC) and Ethics Regulatory Board (ERB) members in low and middle income countries (LMICs), during conduct and ethics review of One Health and Emergency research. Study findings concluded that there was inadequate knowledge in ethical conduct of, and ethics review of One Health and Emergency research, and recommended training of One Health researchers, REC and ERB members in ethics of One Health and Emergency research for ethical conduct, timely and appropriate ethics review and regulation of One Health and Emergency research protocols, especially during zoonotic disease outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics. Currently, I am conducting in depth interviews with One Health researchers, REC and ERB members from Kenya, specifically to get their opinions on what is required for ethical conduct, and ethics review of One Health and Emergency research in LMICs, especially for research carried out by investigators from these countries. I have interests in ethics of health effects arising from climate change.
