Dr. Mohamed Abdelrahman Mohamed is a distinguished veterinary scientist and public health expert based in Somalia. He graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Sudan University of Science and Technology in 2010 and further advanced his expertise with a Master of Veterinary Public Health from University Putra Malaysia (UPM). With a focus on the intersection of animal health and human diseases, Dr. Mohamed is a member of the Somali Veterinary Medical Association (SVMA) and Somali One Health. His research primarily centers on infectious diseases, particularly zoonoses and antimicrobial resistance, areas in which he has published over 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Since 2016, Dr. Mohamed has been a researcher and senior lecturer at Somali National University (SNU) in Mogadishu. In this capacity, he trains veterinary graduates in disease investigation methodologies, guiding them through the processes of planning and executing field investigations of disease outbreaks, collaborating with local communities, collecting samples, and advising authorities on outbreak management. Additionally, he works closely with the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory to ensure accurate diagnoses and disseminate findings. From January 2021, he has been a ProMED-EAFR Moderator for Somalia, contributing to disease surveillance and reporting efforts on regional health threats.
