Shakel Henson

Autobiography – Dr. Shakel Henson Written by: Dr. Shakel Henson, BSc, MD, MPH, MSc, MSc, MSBioethics, MSc, CPH, FRSPH, FRSTMH. Dr. Shakel Henson is a public health physician and ethicist from St. Vincent and the Grenadines who was trained in Grenada, the US, and the UK. Her qualifications include a BSc in Medical Sciences, Doctor of Medicine, Master of Public Health, Master of Science (MSc) in International Management, MSc in Global Health and Infectious Diseases, MSc in Bioethics, and an MSc in Epidemiology. Dr. Henson is a Commonwealth Scholar, Fellow of the Bioethics Scholar Program and the Caribbean Research Ethics Education Initiative, peer reviewer for the Global Bioethics journal and Honorary Secretary of the Bioethics Society of the English-speaking Caribbean. Presently, Dr. Henson is doing work on climate change and bioethics in the Caribbean region and hopes to publish her paper titled “Efficacy of Artificial Intelligence at Addressing Climate-Health Linkage Issues in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS)” soon. She is also near completion of an article on the “Vulnerability and Resilience of a Caribbean Small Island Developing State: A Bioethics Perspective”. Dr. Henson is one of the case study authors for the recently published Casebook, ‘Research Ethics in Epidemics and Pandemics: a Casebook’. Earlier in 2024, she was invited to and subsequently submitted her comments on the World Health Organization’s draft document that related to “Key criteria for the ethical acceptability of controlled human infection studies during public health emergencies”.
