Shamima Lasker

Professor Shamima Parvin Lasker, PhD, is an Anatomist, Bioethicist and Journal Editor. Of her 35 years of teaching career, she worked as a Professor and Head of Anatomy since 2007 in Bangladesh. Prof Parvin worked as a Consultant of bioethics for UNESCO in 2009, and FAO in 2015 respectively. She is the President of the Asian Bioethics Association (ABA). Prof Lasker is the Founding Chairman and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Bioethics Society. In recognition of her dedicated work and organizing ability to promote the cause of bioethics in Bangladesh, she was honored as an “Honorary Lifetime Membership” of the UNESCO Asia Pacific School of Ethics in 2009. She has been a member of the National Ethics Committee of Bangladesh from (2014-till date). Prof Shamima has been occupying herself in the Journal editorial system nationally and internationally since 2001. She is the Vice President of, APAME (Asian Pacific of Medical Journal Editors) from 2023 to 2025. Earlier, Shamima was the Treasurer of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) for 2017- 2019 and also served WAME as Director between 2012 and 2014. In the national level, she is the Member Secretary of the Bangladeshi Society for Medical Journal Editors (BAMJE) and Executive Editor of the Bangladesh Journal of Bioethics. Prof Lasker has seventy (70) peer-reviewed articles and has authored many books on Anatomy, Bioethics, and Publication Ethics. She has been working for Women Scientists as well. She was the elected Vice President of OWSD, till 2022 (BD Chapter).
