I have been working as a Social Scientist in St John’s Medical College, in the Division of Health and Humanities which is part of St John’s Research Institute, Bangalore, for the last 12 years. My work focusses on the intersection between medicine and the humanities, science and society, technology advancements and bioethics.I teach medical students a Humanities -Environment program called the Citizen Doctor course in their first year of medical training in which the concepts of planetary health, mental health and climate change, ecological mapping and advocacy are introduced. The students also assess the medical college annually using the Planetary Health Report Card under my guidance. I am also a member of the recently initiated research hub SHADE (Sustainability, Health, AI, Digital technologies and the Environment) at King’s College London, where I’m leading a study of E-waste in India – the regulations and the impact on the marginalized. I have been advocating for the inclusion of planetary health into bioethics teaching and the medical curriculum in India and hope to build a movement around this in India.
