Surhan Badar

Surhan Badar is an IRB Coordinator at Indus Hospital and Health Network, Pakistan. As an autistic person of color (POC), she brings unique insights into the blind spots of neurotypical researchers and the power dynamics between the Global North and South in international research. She provides capacity building on research ethics for faculty, staff, and clinicians at Indus Hospital and Health Network, helping them identify vulnerable populations and recognize their own positionality. Surhan ensures ethical compliance in research, with particular attention to vulnerable populations within a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) framework. With a focus on the lived experiences of neurodivergent adults, Surhan advocates for the depathologizing of neurodivergence and addresses the lack of adult services. As a patient rights advocate, she is also involved in drafting Pakistan's first unified code of ethics for mental health professionals.
