Haidee Bell

I am an imaginary and strategist with experience over 25 years of designing, leading and investing in a portfolio of initiatives applying innovation, design and community engagement for social good. I am drawn to endeavour which seeks to dismantle social inequity and committed to the meaningful participation of a wide range of people in creating change. I am currently Head of Community Engagement at Wellcome Trust, where I co-lead a team focussed upon putting communities most impacted by urgent global health challenges at the heart of research, to address inequities in health. We do this through programmes of work and investments to enable community participation upstream, midstream and downstream of research across Wellcome’s mission, and by creating partner relationships and supporting the field of engagement practice. We are also investing in work to reimagine engagement, including through our new initiative Centres for Exchange https://www.centresforexchange.org which seeks to understand routes for more open exchange of knowledges. My career has offered me the chance to work across worlds of design, data and technology, health systems, civic action, corporate innovation and science and research and I have an understanding of perspectives from different fields, and experience of accompanying different people on a quest to create impact.
