Alex Phang

Dr. Alex Phang Kean Chang serves as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. In addition to a teaching role, Dr. Phang leads the Unit of Medical Research Ethics at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre. With advanced qualifications, including three master’s degrees in Pathology, Public Health, and Health Research Ethics, along with a PhD in Pathology, Dr. Phang also contributes as a faculty member for the Master of Health Research Ethics (MOHRE) program at Universiti Malaya, collaborating with the Berman Institute of Bioethics, Johns Hopkins University, to promote health research ethics education. As a Senior Research Fellow with the Global Health Bioethics Network (GHBN), Dr. Phang is currently engaged in a project addressing the ethical and governance challenges of precision medicine. Broader research interests span research ethics, public health ethics, and the ethics of emerging technologies. Dr. Phang is committed to building bioethics capacity nationally and globally, particularly by empowering communities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to participate in health research. The ultimate goal is to contribute to significant national and global health ethics initiatives.
