Mercury Shitindo is a bioethicist and researcher with extensive influence. As an Ethics Expert for the European Commission's Horizon Europe Ethics Appraisal Scheme, she brings valuable insights to international research ethics. Shitindo chairs and leads the Africa Bioethics Network and holds advisory positions on several boards, including the BCA-WA-ETHICS II Project and the Tropical Health and Education Trust Program Quality Committee.
Her global impact is further evidenced by her leadership roles in eLife's Global South Advisory Committee for Open Science and the Training Advisory Committee for the SCALE-IT project. Shitindo also contributes to the Regulatory and Ethics Work Stream for the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health and the Ethics and Data Sharing Working Group for the Public Health Alliance for Genomic Epidemiology.
As Co-editor in Chief of the African Journal of Bioethics, which she helped establish, Shitindo promotes ethical research practices across the continent. Her work extends to investigating the environmental sustainability of AI health research in Kenya as the lead Principal Investigator for a Kings College-funded project.
Shitindo's expertise in bioethics and digital health is further demonstrated through her involvement with the ORCID Bioethics Community of Practice in Sub-Saharan Africa and her co-founding of the Centre for the Sustainability of Digitally Enabled Health (SHADE). As an accomplished Ethics Course/Curriculum Developer and trainer, she also serves as a Technical Expert Consultant for Global Impact and an Advisory Ethical Research Consultant at the Busara Center for Behavioral Economics.
