Matimba Swana
Matimba is doing a PhD in the Department of Engineering Mathematics & Technology and Centre for Ethics in Medicine at University of Bristol, UK. Matimba's research combines cancer nanomedicine, swarm robotics, bioethics, and the use of computer models in clinical trials. Her PhD explores the regulatory framework needed for the first-in-human clinical trials of nanoswarm technology for cancer treatment. Matimba is a co-founder of PROTEAS (an organisation that aims to encourage and promote more sustainable practices in robotics and the wider field of engineering) and a co-founder of Black and Brown in Bioethics (a network that aims to achieve racial equity within the UK bioethics community). Matimba currently sits on the Bristol cancer research steering committee and is a trustee on the Executive Board at the Brain Tumour Charity and Travelling Light Theatre company. Matimba has previously worked on the Futures team in the UK Government Office for Science, in Biotech focusing on stem cell research and in clinical trials focusing on phase 2 and 3 rare disease studies, digital health and decentralised trials.
